Supported disciplines include painting, sculpture, crafts, printmaking, design, photography, and media. The program supports activities by museums, galleries, art centers, and other visual arts organizations, with a preference for projects emphasizing the work of professional Alabama artists. The Consolidated Project Grant allows for a single application covering several related projects, whether new or existing, supporting special constituency access, conservation, exhibition planning, artist residencies, educational activities, commissioning Alabama artists, and enhancing organizational professional growth. Criteria for evaluation include artistic excellence, cultural heritage, community support, educational benefits, diversity, accessibility, and potential long-term impact.

Activities producing academic credit or benefiting only university/college students and academic community
Private non-profit organizations requesting funds directly from legislature for arts programming
Organizations with delinquent final reports from previous grants
Programs restricted to credit-earning students
Programs endorsing specific political parties, candidates, or religions
Food, drink, and other refreshments
Indirect costs not related to arts programming
Fundraisers.
