Overview

The Food Production Investment Program (FPIP) aims to accelerate the adoption of advanced energy efficiency, decarbonization, and renewable energy technologies within California's food processing industry to maintain its competitiveness and operational viability within the state. It supports updates and improvements in food production facilities with energy-efficient and decarbonizing technologies, thus reducing operating costs and GHG emissions. Funded projects must support electrical grid reliability, reduce GHG emissions, and comply with the Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006. Specifically, FPIP targets energy efficiency by supporting "drop-in ready" equipment upgrades and technologies to enhance grid reliability, especially during net peak periods. The program is open to all California food processors and related facilities, with a stipulation that projects must be located within the state.
