Overview

The Environment Program of the Doris Duke Foundation emphasizes conserving and restoring nature to protect wildlife, sustain biodiversity, and address climate change while promoting equity. It supports land conservation, stewardship, and initiatives that increase the pace and scale of conservation efforts in the United States, particularly those that benefit BIPOC communities. The grant program focuses on:

  • Conservation of resilient lands and waters, adapting conservation practices to climate change, and landscape-scale conservation for connectivity and resilience.
  • Accelerating natural climate solutions, such as ecosystem restoration and improved land management, to mitigate climate change and support economic development.
  • Fostering inclusive conservation that respects local communities and traditional knowledge, and advances equitable access to nature. This includes diversifying the conservation workforce and ensuring equitable distribution of conservation benefits. Key activities include policy development, market-based approaches, innovative financing, and strategic communications to enhance natural climate solutions, and supporting the Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program for a more diverse environmental conservation workforce.
