Overview

The JFNY Grant for Japanese Studies is designed to enhance the understanding of Japan through academic exploration within the United States or through virtual formats. It supports U.S.-based institutions/organizations with 501(c)(3) status, focusing on projects like conferences, colloquia, symposia, presentations, and lectures. Grants up to $5,000 are awarded, with priority for projects that also secure outside funding. Eligible expenses include honoraria, travel, accommodation, research materials, and more. Projects are expected to cover their own reception costs, and funds are disbursed as reimbursements upon project completion and reporting.

Martial arts, medical, technical, or scientific projects
Projects including political, religious, social welfare, or commercial activities
Study tours and research trips to Japan
