Overview

The grant philosophy is centered on Growing Human Wholeness, specifically aiming to empower Maine-based nonprofits working towards strengthening connections between individuals and the natural world. The program supports efforts that encourage people to choose regional and plant-based foods to restore both human and environmental health. There are two grant periods annually, focusing on Nourishment and possibly another undisclosed area. Strategies for nourishment-focused grants include promoting community gardens, enhancing knowledge for selecting healthy local foods, improving access to affordable regional foods, educating on the benefits of plant-based diets, and supporting sustainable farming techniques. Review Criteria

Our focus is on supporting organizations that consistently demonstrate certain core values through their operations. When reviewing potential projects and programs, we look for those that naturally embody and consciously commit to the following principles:

  1. Community-Centric Development: We are inclined towards organizations that are deeply ingrained and reactive to the needs of the community, as we believe such organizations are more likely to achieve relevance, significance, and success. We value projects that are conceived and carried out with active participation from the community and affected groups, as these initiatives foster connection and empower communities in Maine.

  2. Symbiosis with Nature: We hold in high regard organizations that aim for a harmonious relationship between humanity and the environment. Our interest lies in projects that promote health improvements for individuals while also benefiting or revitalizing local natural surroundings.

  3. Social Connectivity: In our view, organizations that facilitate ongoing engagement between individuals, their communities, and the natural world play a crucial role in combating the increasing sense of isolation experienced across various demographics and particularly in rural areas.

  4. Inclusive Support: Our preference is for organizations that endeavor to nurture the entirety of a person and provide healthy options for communities historically marginalized or overlooked, as well as under-served areas within Maine.

  5. Commitment to Health: We esteem organizations dedicated to fostering healthy choices at both the individual and community levels, with a specific focus on preventative healthcare through nutrition and engagement with nature, whether through work, service, or recreational activities.
