The GoodUse program specifically aims to help nonprofits reduce utility costs and reinvest those savings into their mission-critical programs by offering technical assistance, education, and matching grants for facility and operational upgrades. This initiative seeks to increase resource efficiency, lower expenses, and improve indoor health in nonprofit facilities, contributing to environmental sustainability while enabling these organizations to better focus on their core mission and serve their communities.

  • Located in the Southeast United States
  • Must own building or have a long-term lease of at least 5 years
  • If religious, no more than 25% of space dedicated to religious activities; must offer non-religious programs to all
  • Must meet match requirement based on organization’s annual operating budget
  • Funding for incremental cost of energy or water efficiency project upgrades
  • New construction projects must have completed design plans that are pre-bid or can be changed and re-bid; not eligible if construction has begun unless design changes are still possible
  • Must complete project implementation within 12 months after signing the grant agreement
