The Office of Elementary and Secondary Education (OESE) works to improve the achievement of students in preschool through secondary school. The office also works to ensure equal education opportunities for all, and to provide assistance to state and local schools.
The Project SAFE grant program, guided by the School Safety National Activities authority of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, aims to enhance student safety and well-being. Specifically, it supports local educational agencies (LEAs) that implement strategies to halt the spread of COVID-19, following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance. The program targets LEAs that face financial penalties from State educational agencies (SEAs) or other State entities for adopting such health and safety measures.
