Connecticut Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP)

From USDA: Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS)

We deliver conservation solutions so agricultural producers can protect natural resources and feed a growing world.

Type of Support

Overview

The Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) is designed to assist agricultural producers and forest landowners in improving environmental quality and conserving resources on their lands. It offers a holistic approach to address natural resource concerns, such as water and air quality, soil health, and wildlife habitat. Specifically, the program supports initiatives aimed at improving water and air quality, conserving water, improving soil health, reducing erosion, and mitigating the impacts of drought and weather volatility. EQIP works by helping producers develop and implement conservation plans, providing both technical guidance and financial assistance for conservation practices. The projects under EQIP include reducing contamination from agricultural sources, utilizing nutrients efficiently to cut costs and pollution, enhancing soil health, implementing climate-smart practices for carbon sequestration, and building resilient landscapes. Additionally, EQIP provides targeted financial assistance through various conservation initiatives available in specific states, like the High Tunnel Initiative, Organic Initiative, Air Quality Initiative, Landscape Conservation Initiatives, On-Farm Energy Initiative, and the Colorado River Basin Salinity Project.
