The foundation offers various types of grants to match different needs and initiatives: Responsive Grants for requests up to $50,000, Collaborative Grants ranging from $50,000 to $500,000 intended for more significant projects that may involve multiple organizations, Matching Grants to help amplify impact by leveraging additional funding sources, and Foundation Initiatives for projects that align closely with the foundation's strategic goals, sometimes involving substantial funding beyond $500,000.

  • Serve residents of Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr, or Willacy counties
  • Provided the project funds requested will be spent in one or more of these counties, and primarily benefit residents of these counties, organizations based outside the 4-county area may be eligible
  • Request funding for projects or programs that demonstrate a positive effect on the health of residents within the funding area
  • Have no funded requests on file within the previous 12 month period within the Responsive, Operational or Collaborative categories
  • Will consider funding for new projects or programs, operating expenses, multi-year requests, capital purchases and projects, indirect costs up to 10%, matching funds, and staff positions (with an adequate sustainability plan for permanent positions)
  • Organizations may submit one proposal per cycle, if not currently funded

Review Criteria

Preference will be granted to applications that have a broad impact, showcase cooperative efforts, exemplify the efficient management of organizational assets, feature programs that can be duplicated, and have strong support from the community, including volunteers and/or benefactors.
