Overview

The Direct Effect Awards are designed to support Colorado nonprofit organizations whose work aligns with CHFA’s goals in affordable housing and community development. Specific areas of support include affordable homeownership and improvements, development or preservation of affordable rental housing, economic development, and small business support. Furthermore, the grants aim to tackle broader societal challenges tied to education, mobility, health, and energy efficiency to support housing stability and economic prosperity.

  • The contribution cannot be used to support activities proscribed by Section 1-45-117 of the Colorado Fair Campaign Practices Act
  • Cannot be used for advocacy in support or opposition to any state, federal, or local legislation

Ineligibility

Organizations previously awarded a Direct Effect Award in December 2021 or any round of 2022
Organizations intending to use funds to prepare for a future LIHTC application or as gap funds for a development previously awarded LIHTC
Organizations planning to use funds for predevelopment costs.

Submission

Review Criteria

Priority will be given to applicants dedicated to advancing their initiatives within any of the domains listed below:

  • Enhancing the welfare of rural communities.
  • Catering to unique needs groups including the homeless, veterans, the elderly, or individuals with disabilities.
  • Promoting innovative approaches in construction techniques, service provision, community cooperation and alliances, or other transformative activities that bolster housing security or economic growth.
