FRS is committed to supporting rural communities across the country by providing aid to enhance the quality of life. Through grants and other initiatives, FRS aims to foster development and ensure sustainable growth in these areas, focusing especially on communities served by NTCA members.

Type of Support

Overview

The Community Grants Program by FRS is designed to support rural America in various facets to ensure sustained development and improved quality of life. The grant program focuses on four main categories:

  1. Business and Economic Development - Aims to stimulate growth by supporting small or existing businesses, fostering new business development, and creating job opportunities that attract talent.
  2. Community Development - Focuses on promoting technology skills, incorporating innovation in learning, enhancing the visibility of local talent and artistry, and making towns attractive destinations.
  3. Education - Supports the advancement of education through the provisioning of technology in classrooms, building educational resources, strengthening extracurricular activities, and promoting distance learning.
  4. Telecommunications Applications - Encourages communities to become technological powerhouses by leveraging broadband-enabled applications for various purposes including telehealth, education, government services, safety and security, and efficient energy use.

Submission

Review Criteria

FRS prioritizes projects that align with the following criteria: Eligible for complete funding through a maximum grant of $5,000 or already possess at least 75% of necessary financing. Focus on projects enabled by technology and broadband. Aim to deliver sustained benefits for both the community and its members. Encourage active involvement and contribution from the community. Foster the development of a more resilient rural community.
