The mission of CDFW is to manage California’s diverse fish, wildlife, and plant resources, and the habitats upon which they depend, for their ecological values and for their use and enjoyment by the public.
The grant program from the CDFW aims to fund projects that primarily focus on addressing the urgent degrading water and habitat conditions due to climate change impacts. This includes a variety of eligible activities such as purchasing water from willing sellers to benefit wildlife, protecting instream flows, building water conservation projects, implementing emergency restoration activities, and executing conservation strategies that align with the State Wildlife Action Plan. Priority is given to actions that protect the Species of Greatest Conservation Need identified in the Plan. Furthermore, all projects funded under this program are expected to offer one or more benefits related to protecting or enhancing biodiversity, fostering climate change resiliency and connectivity, supporting priority habitats identified in the State Wildlife Action Plan, conserving or enhancing working landscapes, conserving or enhancing water-related projects, and/or enhancing public access.
