Drought Emergency: Protecting Salmon

From California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW)

The mission of CDFW is to manage California’s diverse fish, wildlife, and plant resources, and the habitats upon which they depend, for their ecological values and for their use and enjoyment by the public.

Type of Support

Overview

CDFW offers ongoing restoration grant opportunities, focusing on funding projects that provide benefits such as protecting or enhancing biodiversity, climate change resiliency, support of State Wildlife Action Plan priority habitats, conservation of working landscapes, water-related project enhancements, and improving public access. Among these, specific funding is allocated for projects that enhance salmon resiliency to drought and climate change, including restoration, protection, or enhancement of riparian and aquatic habitat, river channels, reconnection of historical flood plains, and improvements to ecological functions. Importantly, a portion of this funding targets the Klamath River Watershed, with dedicated funds for projects within the Scott River and its tributaries, as well as the Shasta River and its tributaries, encouraging support from and collaboration with Tribes and local landowners or landowner associations.
