The State Historical Society of Iowa's mission is to foster the understanding and appreciation of Iowa's historical legacy. Through preservation, scholarship, and engagement, the society aims to connect the public with the state's rich historical resources and narratives.
The Destination Iowa Fund Grant Program supports projects aimed at creating or expanding primary destinations to boost tourism in Iowa. The program specifically targets efforts to attract visitors and new residents, with a focus on enhancing the quality of life in rural areas of the state. Eligible projects may receive up to 25% of their project costs, with a requirement that applicants have 65% of their project financing secured at the time of pre-application. Notably, half of the program’s funds are earmarked for rural destinations, defined as communities with populations under 20,000, emphasizing the program’s commitment to supporting rural development alongside urban projects.
