Humanities Kansas has embarked on a mission to explore bold stories and big ideas across Kansas—concentrating on what it means to be human, to be part of a democracy, and to strengthen our communities. As it marks its first 50 years, Humanities Kansas is dedicated to carrying forward Kansas stories, continuing to highlight the state's rich cultural tapestry.
The broader goals of the Culture Preservation Grants program include preserving stories that document the human experience, increasing public access to shared cultural heritage, and enhancing organizational capacity with the assistance of a Project Consultant. The program supports a variety of projects such as oral histories, digitization efforts, transcription, collections care, language preservation, hands-on training, and other creative preservation projects. These projects should implement best practices and utilize the knowledge of a Project Consultant for a successful application. Proposals that focus on making existing collections, archives, and exhibits accessible in formats beyond traditional in-person visits are especially encouraged. The core aim of these grants is to ensure public access to and preservation of local cultural resources. This initiative is a collaborative effort between Humanities Kansas and the Kansas Historical Society.
